Man Charged with Calumet City Teenager's Death

The teenager's body was found in a Hammond trash bin Thursday morning

Police have arrested a man in connection to the death of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found in a Hammond dumpster.

John Hurt, 27, has been charged with first degree murder and concealment of a homicide in the death of missing teen Jessica Tetter, according to a Calumet City Police press release.

Tetter was first reported missing by her mother on Wednesday, the release said.

Hammond police found Tretter's body in a trash bin early Thursday, according to the Lake County Coroner. Police Chief Brian Miller says a passerby spotted the teen’s body in the 5900 block of Hyslop Place at approximately 6:02 a.m.

Her friends and teachers at Thornton Fractional North High School, where Tetter was a sophomore, held a candle lit vigil Saturday night. Tetter competed on the track team and had just been accepted into an elite nursing summer program at her school.

Hurt has been arrested four times since 2003 on Misdemeanor charges for domestic battery, said Zorzi.
