3 People Killed in Possible Self-Defense Shooting, Police Say

Three people were shot and killed in East Side Sunday evening, and Chicago Police are investigating the shootings as self-defense. NBC 5’s Regina Waldroup is on the scene.

Three people were shot and killed in a suspected self-defense case in Chicago’s East Side neighborhood on Sunday evening, police said.

Police confirmed that two men and one woman were shot and killed in the 10200 block of S. Ewing. All three victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and all three were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

According to police, the case is being investigated as a suspected burglary. The three people allegedly entered the home through the basement, and the homeowner shot all three of them, according to a police spokesperson. 

After the shooting, the homeowner allegedly secured himself in another part of the house and called 911, according to police. 

According to police, the man was in possession of a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card. 

Police have not released details or identities of any of the people involved.
