Police say that a 2-year-old girl has been located safely after she went missing following the death of her mother at a South Side apartment Thursday morning.
According to police, the child was found safe, and a suspect was taken into custody, but no further information was made available.
Officers were initially dispatched for a well-being check at 11:07 a.m. on Thursday morning, and when they arrived at the apartment in the Grand Crossing neighborhood they found the woman, thought to be in her 20s, dead inside.
Her death was being investigated as a homicide and may have stemmed from a domestic incident, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not yet released details about the fatality.
Area Central detectives are investigating.
