2 Charged With Shooting Death of Calumet City Rapper

Jamal Hoare, 22, of Dolton, and Jacob Wilson, 19, of Calumet City, are each charged with first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in connection with the death.

Two men have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a local rapper during a robbery Friday night in south suburban Calumet City.

Jamal Hoare, 22, of Dolton, and Jacob Wilson, 19, of Calumet City, are each charged with first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in connection with the death of Jevante Johnson, according to Calumet City Police Chief Edward Gilmore.

Johnson, 20, allegedly set up a drug deal with Hoare and Wilson, Gilmore said. He got in the back of their vehicle about 8:45 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of 157th Street and said he was robbing them, Gilmore said.

The person sitting next to Johnson in the back of the car pulled out a gun and shot him, Gilmore said. Another person in the vehicle was also hurt in the shooting.

Johnson, of the 300 block of Oglesby Avenue in Calumet City, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died later Friday night, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy Saturday indicated Johnson died from multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

Hoare and Wilson were each ordered held on a $1.5 million bond in Markham court on Monday, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office. Another person wanted in connection with Johnson’s murder is not in custody, Gilmore said.

Both are next scheduled to appear in court in Markham on Aug. 15.
