Fat Smoking

Smoking and obesity have something in common. Early death.

Obesity in teens carried the same risk of premature death in adulthood as smoking at least ten cigarettes a day, according to researchers.

The study, from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, followed more than 45,000 teens for about 38 years.

Obese teens were twice as likely to die early than normal weight teens. Those who smoked were also twice as likely to die prematurely than nonsmokers.

The study found that those who were heavy smokers and obese were five times more likely to die early than normal weight nonsmokers.
