Authorities arrested actor Ryan O’Neal and his son Redmond earlier this morning on suspicion of narcotics possession.
During a probation search at the senior O’Neal’s Malibu home, where Redmond, 23, who is currently on probation lives, the Sheriff’s Department said deputies found methamphetamine, the Los Angeles Times first reported.
Redmond, the son of Ryan and Farrah Fawcett, was reportedly found in possession of the drug, and a vile of the substance was also found in his father’s room, according to the paper.

The two men were held for several hours in lieu of $10,000 bail following the early morning arrests, but were released from custody shortly before 12:30 PM local time.
Shortly after news of their arrests made the rounds, Tatum O’Neal, Redmond’s half sister, released a statement to Access Hollywood.
“Addiction, if untreated, can lead to jail, institutions and death,” the actress who herself was arrested in June 2008 on possession charges said. “I love them both and [am] sorry to hear about this.”

In July 2008, Tatum plead guilty to a disorderly conduct charge related to her arrest and was sentenced to spend time in a rehab program. She credited the arrest for saving her from relapsing.
As for her brother Redmond, he was previously arrested on drugs charges and driving under the influence stemming from an incident in January 2008 when he was pulled over in Malibu. The younger O’Neal was charged with possession of heroin and methamphetamine and driving under the influence.
In June, he pleaded guilty to possession and a misdemeanor DUI charge and managed to avoid jail, but was sentenced to three years probation.
He was previously placed on probation in 2005, after another arrest related to methamphetamine and cocaine possession charges.
In 2007, the senior O’Neal was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he fired a gun during a brawl with his older son, Griffin, 43, who had allegedly tied up Redmond and then threatened Ryan with a fire-poker (reportedly lacerating his own pregnant girlfriend in the process).
Griffin, and his attorney, Gloria Allred, blamed Ryan for Griffin’s girlfriend’s injury.
