State Lawmaker Joins Congressional Musical Chairs

North Side State Rep Targets Emanuel's Seat

A Illinois lawmaker is throwing her hat into the ring for the congressional seat being vacated by Obama's designated chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.

Sara Feigenholtz, who represents the 12th District in the Illinois General Assembly, announced that she is running to replace Emanuel, who represents the 5th Congressional District. The 5th District represents the North and Northwest side of the city, as well as some nearby suburbs.

Feigenholtz was first elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 1994, and currently chairs the Human Services Appropriations Committee, according to a news release. That committee oversees state healthcare, child care, veterans' affairs and services to the disability community.

Feigenholtz began her career in public service 25 years ago, when she began working as chief of staff to State Sen. John Cullerton, according to the news release.

Prior to her career in public service, Feigenholtz served as executive director of the Central Lakeview Merchants Association. Feigenholtz grew up in Hollywood Park, went to school in North Park, and graduated from Northeastern Illinois University. Feigenholtz currently resides in Lakeview and is a member of Anshe Emet Synagogue.
