More Hotel Workers End Strike, Ratify New Contract

Workers at 11 Chicago hotels remain on strike, the union says

Workers continued to march outside popular hotels in downtown Chicago Tuesday. NBC 5’s Chris Hush has the details.

Workers at four more Chicago hotels approved a new contract that will end a three-week long strike over wages and off-season benefits.

Workers at Hilton hotels in the city, including the Palmer House, Drake, Hilton Chicago, and DoubleTree Chicago Magnificent Mile, ratified the new deal on Saturday, according to a press release.

A total of 3,500 hotel workers are covered by new collective bargaining agreements that guarantee workers healthcare even if they are laid off during the winter. A total of 15 hotels have recently settled contracts with the UNITE HERE Local 1 union, while workers at 11 other hotels, including the Hyatt Regency Chicago, remain on strike.

The UNITE HERE Local 1 union represents over 15,000 hotel workers across the city.
