Kane County Teens Killed En Route to School

Single-vehicle crash takes the lives of popular high school seniors

Family and friends are mourning the deaths of two well-liked high school students who were killed in a car crash.

Blake Denton and Jeffrey Malewig were killed Thursday morning as they drove to Kaneland High School in Kane County.

The Daily Herald reported that nearly 200 teens attended a prayer vigil Thursday night in Sugar Grove, where they talked about the two boys, prayed for their families and the high school, and had local pastors available, if needed, to help cope with their grief.

"We pray to carry Kaneland High School through this crisis," said Assistant Principal Ian Smith. The Rev. Tim Badal noted the number of accidents over the years in which Kaneland students have been killed:

"I know Kaneland has suffered these things far too many times," he told the students.

Authorities are trying to determine why Denton's car crossed the center line, left the road and crashed into a tree.
