Feeling (and Looking) Fine in '09

Several spas are getting the new year off to a stunning start

After the holidays and in the midst of another grueling winter, who couldn't use a little recharge of the batteries (yes, guys, even you)? Several savvy spas are taking the start of a new year as a stellar opportunity to get customers in the mindset of routine pampering -- think of these treatments as "necessary luxuries." We know we do.

It's "Customer Appreciation Month" throughout January at Eshe Day Spa and Salon, located in the Loop (so convenient for lunch-time luxury). Discounted services include $40 pedicures, facials, massages and haircuts. Other specials include a Cold Therapy Treatment ($95), which helps ease the discomfort of winter colds with a eucalyptus-infused foot soak, steam-inhalation treatment, ear candling and facial lymphatic massage, as well as a Detox Package ($260), featuring an herbal linen wrap, lymphatic drainage massage, a green tea facial and detox tea to take home.

At Wrigleyville's Salon Slice, the mission is a "New Year, New You." Through Feb. 14, make an appointment with Amy to get a free haircut with full highlights, or get partial highlights for $45. Give your skin a fresh start with half-off all waxing services and $50 custom facials with Salon Slice's new esthetician, Kristen. Salon Slice is also home to the wildly popular Blow Dry Boot Camp, where new recruits learn step-by-step techniques on perfecting that salon-style blow-out at home. The next boot camp is set for Jan. 21.

And, now for the spa-seeking male readers: Halo (for Men), a dude-friendly pampering haven, is offering a "Living Lux in 2009" special at its Gold Coast location this week. For $20.09, choose from a manicure or pedicure, shave, mini facial or half-hour massage. Book all five treatments and receive a $20 gift certificate toward a future appointment.
