Divers in suburban Chicago have found the body of a missing snowmobiler in the Fox River's cold waters.
Officials pulled 26-year-old Algonquin resident Gabe Jauregui from the river Tuesday afternoon. Jauregui was reported missing Monday after last being seen riding a snowmobile home from a tavern Sunday night.
Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District spokeswoman Julie Didier said the snowmobile belonged to Jauregui's uncle. It was found in the river Monday near a hole in the ice.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police officer Richard Riedel said it is legal but not always safe to drive a snowmobile across ice.
Jauregui's body was found less than a mile from where three Chicago teens drowned in November while on a school retreat.
