A man has been charged in the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy in northwest suburban Rosemont last week, a shooting that police are calling “an isolated incident between rival gang members.”

Cesar Garay, 20, of Rosemont, was charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the Friday night shooting of 14-year-old Patrick Boswell just a block from the Allstate Arena, police announced Monday night.

About 8:55 p.m. Friday, Boswell was walking with a group of people in the area of the 7100 block of Chestnut “when they encountered a male subject,” according to a statement from Rosemont police.

After an argument, the teen was shot in the head and killed, police said. Boswell, of the 1600 block of Morse in Des Plaines, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:28 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

After several interviews, police arrested and interrogated Garay, who later admitted to being the shooter, police claim.

Garay is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
