The Chicago Blackhawks have made a trade ahead of the start of NHL free agency, sending forward Tanner Kero to the Vancouver Canucks.

In exchange, the Blackhawks received forward Michael Chaput. In 135 career NHL games, Chaput has six goals and 11 assists, and didn’t register a point in nine games with the Canucks last season.

He has found some success at the AHL level, with 17 goals and 25 assists with the Utica Comets last season. He is a restricted free agent, meaning that the Blackhawks will have to re-sign him this offseason.

As for Kero, he has scored eight goals in his NHL career, and only appeared in eight games with the Blackhawks last season. He scored eight goals and dished out 12 assists during the 2017-18 season with the Rockford IceHogs, and had three assists during the team’s Calder Cup playoff run.

Kero is set to make $750,000 in the upcoming season.
