There were nearly 40 players placed on waivers around the NHL on Monday, and one of the only two who were claimed by other teams happened to play for the Chicago Blackhawks.

According to multiple reports, Blackhawks defenseman Carl Dahlstrom was claimed on waivers by the Winnipeg Jets Tuesday. Dahlstrom, who signed a three-year contract extension with the team last season, was waived as the team works its way toward its 23-man opening night roster, but instead he'll head to Winnipeg where he'll suit up for the Jets.

The Jets have been going through some defensive shortages during the preseason, exacerbated by the uncertainty surrounding former Blackhawks defenseman Dustin Byfuglien. It's unclear when he will rejoin the team, and as a result the Jets ended up snatching up Dahlstrom from the waiver wire.

With the emergence of Dennis Gilbert and the call-up of Adam Boqvist likely at some point this season, the Blackhawks felt that Dahlstrom was a player they could risk trying to sneak through waivers, but now the team will have to deal with his departure.

The Jets also lost a player, as goaltender Eric Comrie was claimed on waivers by the Arizona Coyotes.

Several other noteworthy players, including former Blackhawks Gustav Forsling and Anton Forsberg, cleared waivers and will likely be assigned to minor league teams. Vancouver's Sven Baertschi and the Islanders' Joshua Ho-Sang also cleared waivers.
