Heat Wave: Chicago Area Braces for Hot, Humid Weekend

    The Chicago area is bracing for an incredibly hot weekend, with temperatures in the 90s that may even break records. Natalie Martinez reports. (Published Friday, June 10, 2016)

    The Chicago area has a hot and humid weekend ahead.

    Friday began mostly cloudy and mild with spotty showers ending early in the morning, but sunshine will begin to increase throughout the day as temperatures surge.

    Highs between 89 and 93 degrees are forecast, but conditions will feel more like the mid-90s.

    In the evening hours, a line of showers and storms in southern Wisconsin are expected to fade away before reaching the far northern counties of the metro area by midnight, bringing mostly clear, hazy, mild and muggy conditions.

    Saturday looks to be the warmest day of the week, as highs soar to the mid- to upper-90s. When you factor in humidity, heat index readings will range from 95 to 100 degrees.

    Showers and thunderstorms are possible, but not until late day or in the evening with a few possibly becoming strong to severe.

    Sunday will be mostly sunny, breezy, much cooler and less humid.

    Highs will range from the mid-60s along the lakefront, warming through the upper-70s and low- to mid-80s inland.
