Those red Akira signs are ubiquitous in Chicago, but the clothing retailer is expanding its stylish reach to the suburbs.
Akira plans to open women's boutiques at Westfield Old Orchard in Skokie and Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Crain's reported Friday.
The Old Orchard store opened this week, and the Woodfield store is expected by the end of the month.
"We don't have a master game plan for Akira. We look at every opportunity at the moment as it is presented," co-founder Jon Cotay said. "In this case, both Old Orchard and Woodfield came in at the right time for us."
Akira currently has four women's stores, two menswear stores and three shoe stores in Chicago, Crain's reported.
