A man and a woman were arrested Tuesday, accused of robbing two DePaul University students and holding them at gunpoint in Lincoln Park a night earlier.
The students, both 19-year-old women, were walking in the 900 block of West Belden Avenue around 11:40 p.m when they said a red Ford Taurus pulled up alongside them.
A man jumped out of the passenger's side, pointed a gun at the women and told them to hand over their purses, said police spokesman Robert Perez. The women complied, and the man got back in the car with a female driver who drove off, said Perez.
Police said the women immediately notified them of the crime. A university public safety officer later spotted the car near the intersection of Fremont Street and Belden Avenue.
A search of the vehicle turned up two purses and two handguns, one of which was a replica, officials said.
The female victims later identified their robbers, police said.
