The Alley Holds Chicago Funeral Ahead of Closing

The Alley Chicago, a historic rock and roll clothing store that has been in Chicago for more than 40 years, is closing, but not without a party.

The staple at Belmont and Clark in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood has announced its final day of business will be Monday, just two days after the store’s owner, Mark Thomas, plans to host a funeral for the storefront.

The funeral will take place from 9-10 p.m. on Saturday with Thomas planning to carry a casket out in the 1961 Alley Cadillac Hearse. Free memorial T-shirts will be given out to the first 100 people in line at 9 p.m., the store said.

The Alley’s online shop will continue to sell items from the store after its closing, including items like T-shirts, clothing, hair dye and other Alley products. In addition, the store is having a liquidation sale offering products at a big discount.
