Senior Citizen Wakes to Man With Gun in Her Home: Police

Police are asking for the public’s help after a senior citizen was awakened by a man with a gun in her home in suburban Westmont.

Police said the incident happened around 5 a.m. Jan. 1 in the 1100 block of South Williams Street where they received a report of a home invasion and sexual assault.

An elderly woman was awakened by a man at gunpoint and was then forced to drive to an ATM and retrieve cash from her bank account, police said in an alert.

The woman dropped the suspect off in the area of 83rd Street and Janes Avenue in Woodridge.

The victim was taken to a hospital from treatment and officials say she is recovering from her injuries.

Police described the suspect as a dark-skinned man, 20 to 30 years old, standing between 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a stocky build. They said he was wearing a dark-colored, possibly leather jacket and was armed with a handgun.

The Westmont Police Department offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect. Anyone with information can call the Investigations Division at (630) 981-6319 or email chiefofpolice@westmont.il.gov.
