Police: Man, Woman Killed in Suburban Motorcycle Crash

Police say excessive speed was likely a factor in the crash

A man and a woman were killed in a motorcycle crash in west suburban Chicago early Sunday morning.

A 41-year-old man was driving a motorcycle with a 21-year-old female passenger traveling westbound on I-290 near Mannheim Road in Hillside when the vehicle struck a concrete median barrier and a light pole, Illinois State Police said. Both the man and the woman were ejected onto the westbound lanes.

The accident happened at about 1:50 a.m.

Following the crash, the light pole fell onto the eastbound lanes, causing three other vehicles to strike the pole. The vehicles were damaged, but no one else was injured, according to police.

The man, whose name has not been released, and the woman, identified by police as Miranda Valles, died on the scene.

Police say excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

All lanes in both directions were temporarily closed following the crash, but as of mid-morning Sunday all lanes had reopened.
