A 22-year-old man reportedly spit on and punched a CTA bus driver Sunday in the Chatham neighborhood after he began causing a scene and was asked to get off the bus, officials said.

Julian Coats, of the 800 block of East 8th Street, began causing a scene aboard the in the 7700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Chatham neighborhood when the 49-year-old driver asked him to get off, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Coats allegedly spit in the driver’s face and punched him in the face multiple times while being escorted off the bus.

The driver was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with cuts to his forehead and Coats was charged with felony aggravated battery to a transit employee, the Tribune reported.
