Man Charged in Fatal Kennedy Crash

A woman was killed and seven others injured in a crash early Sunday on the Kennedy Expressway

A Chicago man has been charged in a weekend crash on the Kennedy Expressway that killed a woman and left seven others injured.

Pavlo Lulak, 24, of the 2800 block of North Newcastle Avenue was charged with aggravated DUI, police said. Prosecutors said the man's blood alcohol level was about three times the legal limit.

Lulak is accused of slamming into a barrier wall early Sunday in the outbound lanes of the Kennedy at Armitage Avenue and ricocheting into traffic, plowing into two other cars.

The man was driving a car with five occupants when he lost control of the vehicle and struck two vans around 4:30 a.m., said Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Ivan Bukaczyk.

A 23-year-old woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to state police.

Lulak is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
