Intruder Bites Part of Teen Victim's Ear: Cops

Two offenders and victim had been fighting over a girl, police said

A burglar bit off part of a teenage boy’s ear during a home invasion in the southwest suburb of Braidwood, police said.

Two men are accused of allegedly forcing their way into an apartment at about 12:45 a.m. on June 5, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Police told the paper the suspects beat up the teen and tried to stab him. One of the intruders held down the victim, while the other bit the top half of his ear.

Cody J. Loeffelmann, 21 and Matthew J. Bryner, 20 of Kewanee, were picked up on warrants Tuesday, police said. They were charged with aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful restraint, residential burglary and vandalism.

Police said the teenage victim apparently knew the suspects because he had been fighting with them over a girl. Neighbors called the police when they heard the victim screaming.

Doctors at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet could not reattach his ear because it was too mangled, according to the Sun-Times.

Warrants were issued after the victim identified his assailants. The two are being held on bail in Henry County.
