Water service was restored Friday morning to roughly 9,000 people in the northern Illinois city of Rock Falls but a boil order was ordered through Sunday morning.

City crews shut shut off the water on Thursday afternoon because of what authorities said was a "sanitation infrastructure failure."

The community set up an emergency operations center at Rock Falls City Hall to distribute water to residents. While the water was cut off, the city asked residents not to flush toilets and even those with private wells were asked not to use their water.

Porta-Potties on trucks were in the City Hall parking lot Thursday night, the (Sterling) Daily Gazette reported. And the Whiteside County Health Department ordered all schools, businesses, restaurants and bars to close.
