Dear Abby Gives Advice Across Town

Daughter of original advice columnist wants to be called Abby

Abby has moved -- across town.

Chicago-area devotees of the long-running Dear Abby column now have to turn to the Chicago Sun-Times for advice.

The column appeared in the newspaper for the first time Monday. It had previously been a regular feature in the Chicago Tribune.

Jeanne Phillips is the daughter of Dear Abby founder, Pauline Phillips, and is the current author of the column.

In Monday's paper, she warned a worried boyfriend away from a girlfriend who gambles too much, and ordered a reluctant secretary to send thank you notes to business associates.

Jeanne Phillips tells the Sun-Times in an interview that an increasing number of people who write to her for help have troubles related to the nationwide economic downturn.
