WATCH: Ricky Gervais Plays “Word Sneak” With Jimmy Fallon

Comedian Ricky Gervais stopped by "The Tonight Show" to dish on his comedy-drama Netflix series “Derek” and play a game of "Word Sneak."

But first, Jimmy Fallon brought up a time the two comedians spent time together.

“Do you remember that time we flew together?” Fallon asked.

“That’s not a euphemism,” Gervais said to the audience as a joke.

Fallon explained that the pair perused the travel magazine SkyMall, tearing out pages and ridiculing products being sold in the publication. They talked about one odd article advertising a cushion.

"You carried around that one page for a year, that picture with that woman sleeping faced down because it looks like she got hit by a bus," Gervais said.

"It said 'you’ll get the best sleep ever,’” Fallon said. “Nobody sleeps like that.”

“The worst I thought was 'Tree Faces,'" Fallon said, "where you can hammer on faces on trees and scare the hell out of you.”

"It’s worth taking a flight just to read SkyMall," Gervais said.

Then Fallon brought up Gervais’ series "Derek," which returned to Netflix for a second season last Friday. The show is a mockumentary centered around Derek Noakes (Gervais), an enthusiastic helper at a retirement home. Many of its residents suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and other age-associated illnesses that make them feel cast aside by society.

"When I watch ‘Derek,’ It’s funny but it has a lot of heart to it," Fallon said.

Gervais compared it "The Office," the BBC series he created that had a popular adaptation in the U.S. starring Steve Carell.

“It’s slightly more sincere than ‘The Office’, because I think the big difference is on ‘The Office’ you are laughing at the characters, you are laughing at the difference between they way they see themselves and how the audience saw them,” Gervais explained. “Whereas, with ‘Derek’ we’re on their side more—-it’s the rest of the world we are laughing at, their prejudices.”

Gervais also explained that many members of his family have worked at homes for the elderly and have told him stories about their experiences, inspiring plot lines in the series.

“I have like 35 years of anecdotes and some are really funny, some are really sad, are really tragic,” Gervais said.

Fallon also brought up that Gervais sometimes cries on the series. "Is it hard for you to cry?" Fallon asked.

"No I just think about doing this show again," Gervais said as a joke. "Nothing’s more tragic than that."

Finally, Gervais played a game of "Word Sneak" with Fallon, cleverly dropping words into conversation like “Gerbil,” “Fanny Pack, and “Shaquille O'Neal.”

"It’s good walking around town,” Gervais said of his wandering around New York City. "I went to an Irish pub. It’s called ‘Shaquille O'Neal’s’.”

The crowd was losing it during the game because of the special way Gervais laughs. His howl was noted by Questlove, the drummer for “Tonight Show” band The Roots on tTwitter.

Fallon also recently played "Word Sneak" with Bryan Cranston.
