Rod's Rules.org

Who is He: Sierra is currently the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Johnson Publishing Company. He accepted the position in August 2010. Between 2002 and 2007, Sierra worked as Vice President of Communications and Marketing for People’s Energy. Sierra worked as the Deputy Press Secretary for Mayor Daley from 1999 to 2002. Prior to his work in government he worked as a reporter for WGN Radio and ABC Radio News. He received his bachelor’s from Northwestern University and received his master’s from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.

City Salary: Board of Education members are not paid for their service.

Goals: Sierra has little experience in education and will bring an eye for marketing to the discussion. His work in creative fields will likely bring a fresh perspective to the board and will be helpful in finding innovative solutions to the problems facing the board members.

Challenges: Sierra’s lack of education experience means that he will have to provide solutions that prove effective for him to be a successful member of the board. In a group of individuals with backgrounds in education, he will need to hold his own. His perspective as a parent of four Chicago Public School children could be the way he manages this.
