Rockwood Place

Nobody would argue that Wrigleyville "needs" another bar/restaurant concept, but the minds behind the Rockwood Place -- opening Tuesday night -- believe they're bringing something unique to the scene.

Rockwood Place (3466 N. Clark) is the latest project from the Eat Well, Drink Better group, also responsible for LaSalle Power Company, Angels & Mariachis, English and the Grand Central.

It features "dive cuisine, easy to spell drinks and occasional roadhouse" -- you know the kind of place where a mechanical bull might fit right in.

Rockwood takes over the spot where The Central used to reside, ditching the white subway tiles and red banquette booths in favor of pine walls with iron bars to resemble whiskey barrels and black booths.

And while we're sure the bartender will grudgingly mix you a cosmo, keep in mind that this is a shot and a beer kind of joint -- although that beer can range from an obscure microbrew to an Old Style in a can.

Kick up a storm with the country and rock bands, shimmy to the late night DJs Thursday through Saturday or embarass yourself and your friends with the live band karaoke.

The wallet-friendly $10 "all-you-can-handle" brunch menu will be unveiled Labor Day Weekend, along with a $5 Bloody Mary bar.

And they weren't joking about the "dive cuisine." How about fried cheese curds and mini corn dogs served in cones?

Sounds just about right at 2 a.m.
