Officials are monitoring a massive sinkhole that opened up in Eastern North Carolina Saturday.
Heavy thunderstorms swept through parts of the area, causing major flooding and a sinkhole in Pender County near Wilmington, according to NBC affiliate WECT.
The hole is up to 5 feet deep in some parts, officials said.
The heavy rainfall drenched the roadway causing the land mass to give way. Several other raods in the area were shut down due to standing water and flooding up to 8 inches high.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for the area through Sunday evening.
