Winter Weather Advisory Expires

A Winter Weather Advisory issued for most of the Chicago area has expired.

The advisory issued by the National Weather Service for freezing rain, sleet and snow ended Sunday morning, but slippery road conditions were left behind in it's wake.

Icy roads and freezing rain caused an 11-car-pileup in the Schuamburg Saturday night, according to Illinois State Police.

NBC 5 Meteorologist Cheryl Scott had forecasted one to three inches of sleet and snow across Northwest suburbs, mainly north of I-55, and urged travelers to use extreme caution.

All precipitation will taper off to light snow and light freezing drizzle Sunday morning before ending, Scott said.

Saturday morning temperatures were in the lower 50's and upper 40's throughout Chicagoland, but by late afternoon they had dropped to below 40 degrees.

Earlier this week, Chicago broke a 72-year-old record for most days without an inch of snowfall. The previous record was 320 days.
