Stunning “Sun Dogs” Illuminate Chicago-Area Skies

Chicago-area residents saw a gorgeous phenomenon as they woke up Monday morning. It's called a "Parhelion" or a "Sun Dog," in which the sun is in the middle and on each side you see two colored patches of light. It's caused by the refraction of sunlight passing through ice crystals in the sky. Thanks to Mary Dailey of Romeoville for this photo. Have one? Send to isee@nbcchicago.com.

I've never seen this before. It looks like multiple suns but actually was a lightly colored circular rainbow around the sun! Awesome sight this morning!
