Six Flags Great America Closes for Flooding

Numerous Chicago suburbs were left under water and thousands across the area lost power in the powerful round of storms Wednesday

Six Flags Great America has closed for the day because of flooding in the area, the park announced Wednesday on social media.

Earlier in the day, representatives of the Gurnee amusement park said Six Flags would open at noon after overnight storms poured several inches of rain on the northern suburbs, causing massive flooding.

Just before 1 p.m. Six Flags said it would close for the day.

"UPDATE: Due to flooding in the surrounding area the park will be closed for the day. We apologize and hope to see you soon," Six Flags wrote on Twitter.

Numerous Chicago suburbs were left under water and thousands across the area lost power in the powerful round of storms Wednesday.

More waves of torrential rain are expected to move across the  area throughout the day.
