Friday Was Hot, But Not a Record-Breaker

Temperature in Chicago on Sept. 2, 1953 was recorded at 101 degrees

Yes, it was warm Friday, but it wasn't record-breaking.

The National Weather Service the Chicago's official high temperature Friday -- recorded at O'Hare International Aiport -- was 92 degrees.

That wasn't enough to break a 58-year-old record. The record for Sept. 2 remains at 101 degrees.

A "hot, humid and unstable air mass" was to blame for the heat across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, the weather service said.
