    What to Know

    • Post offices will be open to provide retail services, but mail carriers will not be making deliveries on Wednesday

    • The suspension encompasses Chicago and its surrounding suburbs as well as Minnesota, Iowa, western Wisconsin and western Illinois

Chicago-area mail carriers will not deliver mail for the second straight day on Thursday, the service announced Wednesday.

According to a press release, the decision was made "to ensure the safety and well-being of employees."

"We apologize for any inconvenience this weather-related service disruption has caused," District Manager Randy Stines said. "The safety and well-being of our employees is always of paramount concern to the Postal Service."

While post offices will be open to provide retail services, mail carriers will not be making deliveries in the record-breaking cold.
