Spring. Snow. Really?!?

Spring storm an unwelcomed site

So much for spring really being here. We were shocked into winter Sunday as a storm left unwanted snow around the area.

In Chicago, the storm caused 104 tree emergencies for downed limbs and branches, 80 traffic signal outages, damage to 25 poles, 40 downed wires and 8 blocks of  "all out" street lights, according to spokesman Matt Smith.

ComEd says about 45,000 customers were without power, many of them in suburban Chicago.

Aviation officials say delays at O'Hare International Airport average around 30 minutes. And more than 75 flights have been canceled.

At Midway, there are a few delays of up to 60 minutes and no cancelations.

The National Weather Service says half a foot of snow has accumulated in areas north of Chicago. Farther south, accumulations are less than 3 inches.

The good news is the storm should move out of Illinois this afternoon. And temperatures approaching 40 degrees should quickly melt away the white stuff.
