A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was briefly issued for parts of Cook and DuPage counties Thursday evening, but was later canceled. Some severe weather, however, continued to roll across the area into the later hours.
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing high winds and heavy downpours were expected in the northern suburbs on Thursday afternoon.
Those storms were expected to develop around rush hour in areas north of Chicago, including McHenry and Lake County. The storms slid to the southeast during the evening hours, and hit parts of northwest Indiana.
Winds of up to 60 MPH and isolated heavy downpours were possible in some areas, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
Areas southwest of those counties, including Chicago, weren't expected to be impacted by the storms.
The storms were expected to end around midnight throughout the area. More storms are possible Friday, but will likely be focused on the area south of Interstate 80.
