Heat, Humidity Brings Potential Threat For Severe Storms

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid- to upper- 90s the rest of the week

Heat and humidity could give way to storms over the next couple days across the Chicago area.

While most areas are expected to remain dry Tuesday, NBC 5 weather models show a slight possibility for storms in the early afternoon in up to 30 percent of the area, moving west to east. By Wednesday, the threat for storms increases.

Tuesday temperatures are expected to reach between 85 to 90 degrees with Heat Index values in the mid- to upper-90s.

Hot, humid conditions could produce strong to severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening, models show. Temperatures likely will reach between 85 and 90 degrees with a Heat Index in the 90s.

Once the wave of the storm clears the area, temperatures should become more tolerable with temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s into the weekend.

Thursday calls for partly to mostly sunny skies with less humidity and temperatures in the mid-80s.

To kick off the weekend, a nice pattern of weather shows highs in the upper 70s and 80s for Friday with skies partly to mostly sunny.

Saturday and Sunday should be partly sunny and warm with temperatures in the upper 70s to 80s on Saturday and high 80s for Sunday. A possibility of showers and storms are likely Sunday evening.

Likely showers will continue on Monday, starting the week with temperatures in the mid-80s.
