Super Bowl Storm Delays Garbage Collection

Any waste that is not collected this week will be collected next week when service resumes

Due to drifting snow and icy conditions, Waste Management of Illinois will operate on a holiday schedule during the first week of February.

Collection will be one day late for customers, meaning a Monday route will be collected on Tuesday, and so on, Waste Management said in a statement.

Waste Management provides services in Chicago, surrounding suburbs and northwest Indiana.

Service will also be limited in some areas and residents are asked to leave trash and recycle containers at curbside or alleys for collection until late Saturday.

Any waste that is not collected this week will be collected next week when service resumes, Waste Management said.

Sunday was the snowiest February 1 Chicago has ever seen, and the storm dropped enough snow to rank it as the fifth largest snow event in city history, NBC Chicago Storm Team meteorologists said.
