The entire Chicago area was under a Winter Weather Advisory Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service, with another wintry day - complete with light snow and ice - in store before a warm-up by the weekend.

The Winter Weather Advisory covered Cook, De Kalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Lake, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois, as well as Jasper, Lake and Newton counties in Indiana, according to the NWS. It was scheduled to last through 11 a.m.

Some light snow showers, flurries or freezing drizzle were expected at times, with some minor accumulation possible, mainly in the northern half of the metro area.

The advisory warned of possible icing on any untreated surfaces, making for potentially slippery and hazardous road conditions, as well as icy parking lots and sidewalks.

Temperatures will range from 27 degrees in far northwest locations, rising to 34 in northwest Indiana, making for a seasonably cold day.

Clearing skies overnight will see temperatures drop, but for those who are weary of winter - there's a warm-up slowly headed our way.

Sunshine returns Thursday, and a cold morning will give way to a breezy and slightly warmer afternoon, with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 30s.

Friday looks to be mostly sunny, turning milder with less wind and highs in the low to mid 40s.

The weekend is shaping up to be a great time to take down holiday decorations, as Saturday will be mostly to partly sunny and pleasant for early January with highs in the mid to upper 40s. Sunday will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy, breezy and mild with highs in the mid 40s for the Bears game, then overcast with showers developing in the evening or at night.
