    What to Know

    • Downpours expected throughout Friday across the Chicago area, though we'll see many dry hours too

    • Friday high temps: mid-to-upper 70s inland, low-to-mid 80s south of I-80, upper 60s near the lake

    • Marginal Risk for strong storms continues Saturday

Scattered showers and potential isolated storms throughout the day Friday kick off a rainy weekend in the Chicago area, but it likely won't be a total washout.

Most of the metro area remained under a marginal risk Friday for strong storms, and several suburbs experienced downpours around 9 a.m., with more expected at several points during the day. Still, the NBC 5 Storm Team is tracking many dry hours and locations in between the rain.

Friday highs are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 70s inland and low-to-mid 80s south of I-80, with cooler temps in the upper 60s along the lakefront.

Scattered showers and isolated storms are possible again overnight, and Saturday is expected to start with more clouds than sun.

A warm and humid day is on tap Saturday with periods of scattered showers and isolated storms, but, again, many dry hours in between any rain.

The Marginal Risk for strong storms continues with highs in the 80s inland and cooler upper 60s along the lakefront.

Heavy rain producing storms is more likely in the late evening on Saturday and at night.

Showers and storms remain possible on Sunday, as well as cloudy, warm and humid conditions. High temperatures could reach the upper 70s to low 80s inland, but cooler along the lakefront.

It's more of the same to start the work week. Showers and storms are possible both Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures swing to the low-to-mid 80s inland,  but cooler near the lake.
