Chicago's Department of Streets and Sanitation early Friday deployed 200 snow plows and salt trucks to keep main streets clear from falling lake-effect snow.
Up to an inch of snow was predicted to fall in areas of Cook and Lake counties in Illinois and Lake County in Indiana. The snow was reducing visibility in some area.
Snowfall was expected to continue through the late morning.
The Streets and Sanitation trucks began their focus on arterial streets, Lake Shore Drive, hills, bridge decks, overpasses and "other vital public safety locations" overnight, according to a statement from the department. Residents can track the fleet online at ChicagoShovels.org.
Friday's afternoon high temperature is expected to be in the upper 20s and low 30s.
Saturday looks dry and mostly sunny with temperatures around 35 degrees. Sunday will be warmer, but those running in the Shamrock Shuffle could be dealing with some light rain by midday.
