    More Snow on the Way

A week of wintry weather continues, with a potential snowstorm headed for the Chicago area that could leave more than a foot of accumulation total across some parts of the region by Sunday.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch, scheduled to go into into effect for most of the metro area on Thursday evening and running through Friday night.

The potential snowstorm will likely begin late Thursday and continue into Friday night, leaving between 5 and 10 inches of accumulation in its wake.

That Winter Storm Watch - issued for Lake, DuPage, Cook, Will, Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle, Kendall and Grundy counties in Illinois, as well as Lake and Porter counties in Indiana - warns that the heavy snow will make driving conditions difficult during Friday morning's rush hour.

While the snow will taper off by Friday night, the winter weather won't be done yet.

Saturday morning will start overcast and cold, before light snow develops late in the afternoon and continues through late evening with between 2 and 3 inches of accumulation.

Light snow Sunday will taper off midday, and by the end of the weekend, parts of the Chicago area could see a total of more than a foot of snow on the ground over the week, including the 1 to 3 inches of accumulation from the snowfall late Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Any county under the Winter Storm Watch could see between 5 to 10 inches of snow between Thursday and Friday night, plus additional accumulation over the weekend - though snow totals will likely fluctuate as the system moves in the area.
