Several schools in the Chicago area announced closings or delayed starts Wednesday amid icy and rainy conditions that made roads potentially treacherous.
The area was under its first Ice Storm Warning in nearly a decade Tuesday evening through its cancellation early Wednesday. Several western counties remained under a Winter Weather Advisory through 9 a.m., warning of freezing rain and slick roads and sidewalks.
