A new Freeze Warning has been issued beginning at 11 p.m. Monday across the Chicago area.
Just a week after near-record heat, the National Weather Service issued the latest warning, with temperatures in the upper 20s to 30 degrees, expected to last until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The Weather Service reminded residents that a freeze warning "means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation."
Mid-day on Friday, several towns in north-central Illinois saw the season's first light snowfall.
