Wind, Warmth, Winter Blast: Chicago Area in for Wild 24 Hours of Weather

A windy and warm day Monday will give way to a massive temperature drop

From powerful winds to near-record warmth to plummeting temps, Chicago is set to see a wild 24 hours of weather.

A Wind Advisory takes effect at 3 p.m. in several counties across the metropolitan area.

The advisory, which remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, warns of wind gusts of up to 50 mph. Gusts at that speed could make driving difficult and could bring hazardous conditions to some areas.

Despite the high winds, temperatures are supposed to reach into the low- to mid-60s, reaching close to record levels for Chicago. The record-high temperature for Dec. 4 is 66 degrees.

Conditions will stay mostly cloudy for the day, with rain showers likely at times.

Thunderstorms are possible, mainly for a couple of hours during the evening Monday, as a cold front begins to move in. The storms aren’t expected to be severe, but some could produce even stronger wind gusts.

Things stay windy heading into Tuesday as temperatures shift dramatically.

Temperature highs will drop into the upper-30s before dipping even lower for the remainder of the week.
