Chicago's spring fashion collection should have included snow boots.
Rain mixed with sleet and slushy snow Monday morning, setting a Chicago record for snowfall. It was the most to fall in the area on April 18 since 1910, according to the National Weather Service.
By 8 a.m. on Monday, .6 inches was recorded at O'Hare International Airport. In the north and western suburbs, as much as 2 inches of white stuff fell.
The good news? Those frustrating flurries wrapped up early on and aren't expected to return in coming days. Accumulation also was minimal thanks to high temps between 38 and 42.
By Monday night, clouds and cold return ahead of a rainy week. Beginning Tuesday, rain and thunder are expected, and a few thunderstorms could even become severe in the far south suburbs.
Showers are possible again on Wednesday, but we'll get a break on Thursday with highs of 50 and some sun. More rain is expected for Easter weekend, coupled with more spring-like temperatures reaching 50 degrees.
