The Chicago area could see some measurable snow this weekend, the first potential snowfall over an inch since November.

The system is expected to arrive early Saturday morning, developing from the southwest and spreading northward.

Light snow is expected to continue throughout the day but should taper off by the late afternoon and early evening hours Saturday.

Estimates for snow totals as of Thursday indicate areas south of Interstate 80 could see up to 3 or 4 inches of snow, possibly even more for spots south of the Kankakee River Valley.

Locations to the north and toward the city will likely see around an inch to an inch and a half. Dry air to the north of the approaching system is expected to cause a sharp cutoff line, where little or no snow will possible.

Though models still vary on the predicted snow totals, such an amount would mark the first time the area has seen more than an inch of snow since Nov. 26.
