A winter storm moving into Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan could drop more than a foot of snow by Tuesday afternoon.
A winter storm warning for La Porte and St. Joseph Counties in Indiana and Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan remains in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday.
A lake-effect snowband is expected to move north, bringing snow at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Although forecasters have predicted 5 to 10 inches of snow, isolated amounts of 12 inches or more remain possible.
Drivers should brace for delays late Monday into Tuesday, and be prepared to encounter snow-covered roads and near-zero visibility at times.
While snow might be a big concern, Northwest Indiana residents will get another taste of winter weather rather quickly, with a record-breaking cold snap headed toward the region and the greater Chicago area.
Tuesday morning looks to be clear, with wind chill readings between 0 and -10 degrees possible. The highs for Tuesday will be only in the teens, potentially reaching the low 20s.
The region will see some relief in the following days, with highs reaching the mid 30s on Friday and even 40 degrees on Saturday.
