Slick Road Conditions Possible for Monday Morning Commute

Drivers were being urged to use caution early Monday morning as freezing rain and light snow could make for slick road conditions.

The last of several Winter Weather Advisories in northern Illinois came to an end at about 6 a.m., but patches of fog and freezing drizzle could still make for icy travel conditions.

Another Winter Weather Advisory for LaPorte County in Indiana remained in effect through 8 a.m CT.

Roads were already slick through most of northeast Illinois Sunday, and IDOT advised motorists to be cautious when driving.

The agency warned Sunday that traveling could be “treacherous” because of the slippery conditions, and advised motorists to drive slowly and to keep supplies, including a cellphone, warm clothes, blankets, and food, in your car while driving.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation said early Monday morning that more than 200 salt spreaders would be out on residential streets "with a focus on keeping roads safe and passable for motorists."

Warmer weather continues heading into the work week as highs sit in the 30s both Monday and Tuesday.
