Mom, Daughters Escape Tree Accident Unharmed

A 100-year-old tree fell on Courtney Zavorski and her twin toddlers Sunday afternoon

"Lucky" is the word that comes to Courtney Zavorski's mind when she thinks about the large tree that fell on her and her twin daughters Sunday afternoon in their Riverside yard.

A section of the tree already had fallen during the first of this weekend's thunderstorms, but the rain had long passed when the family went outside Sunday to help catch a neighbor's dog.

That's when the rest of the tree fell to the ground.

"It was pure chaos," Zavorski said. She heard the crack of the tree and felt leaves coming down on her while she frantically looked for her two daughters, Paige and Brooke, 2 1/2 years old. She grabbed one of the girls, and a neighbor got hold of the other.

In the end, Zavorski's daughters escaped with only scratches and bruises.

"It's indescribable, I'm blessed," Zavorski said. "Somebody was watching over me."

The family moved into their Riverside home about five or six months ago. She was told the tree was more than 100 years old.
